Some Basic Instructions
-
Use the editor (Teacher edition) of any game to setup a game and send it to the server. You will then be given a 4-digit game number which you tell your pupils. They can then start the game from the homepage.
Keep a note of the number, and you can go back into the editor and 'view results', to see how they have been getting on. - Frogs. Enter each sentence on a line; then the words must be placed into the correct order to win. You can mark certain words to be placed automatically (highlight the word then click on the 'fix word in place' button. Words placed in the right-hand column will appear as an option, but won't fit into the sentence.
- Battleships. Enter a table of information with row and column headings. The players must enter the text given in the answer square to be able to 'hit' a square on the board. If they sink all the ships first, they win. After an incorrect answer, the game will give one additional correct character on the next attempt.
- Rummy. Enter a table of information. Each entry (including the row headings) will correspond to a playing card, and a set is made of either having all the cards in the same column, or consecutive cards in the same tow. The players must collect one set of 3, and one set of 4, before the opponent in order to win.
- Pairs. Enter a table of information in pairs that match. The players must the match the pairs together; the player with the most wins.
-
Horses. You can choose to have a 'typing' mode, or the game is multiple choice if not.
For multiple choice - enter a number of columns of information, with a column heading. The player will be given the column heading, and will have to choose the word that matches that column. The fastest player to do this correctly will win.
For typing games - enter a table of information, with headings. The player will be given the row heading, and each column heading in turn. The player will then have to type the correct answer for every column. The fastest player to do this correctly will win.
You can also duplicate an existing game - this gives you your own unique game number to pass onto your students. This will not change the game, but it means that you can easily look at the results just from your students.
You can (usually) use the editors without accepting the security certificate - but if you want to save or load files then you will need to accept it. This allows the editor programs to access your hard disk. If you aren't happy with this risk then you will need to enter your data every time you setup a new game.
The 'rules editor' used in Battleships, Rummy and Horses is identical; therefore saved rules files are interchangable. These allow you to set verb endings so that you only need to enter the infinitive into the first column of the table, then click on 'apply rules' and it will fill the rest of the table automatically.
An example rules file for many French present tense verbs is here. (You can right-click to save it onto your computer).
If you can't play the games, the problem may be your Java plugin. To update it, visit java.com/getjava
